When you want to create a new account on wordpress.com without creating a site, they don’t make it obvious, for whatever reason. That is, when you click on “Get Started” at wordpress.com, it goes to a “create a new site” form.

Maybe it has to do with how the namespace for usernames are the same as that of its websites. For example, if someone creates username = username201805, then since no one else can create a site with that username, might as well create the username and the site at the same time.

But I just wanted to create an account without a site; I just wanted to follow some wordpress.com blogs via email. Found the answer here, here, and here.  Use a of these links below will create a wordpress.com acccount, without creating a site:
